Who is Violet Li?
Born in Shanghai, China grew up in Taipei, Taiwan, lived in St. Louis, Missouri, USA for a long time and now a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada. Violet Li always enjoys workouts. She studied yoga, practiced aerobic dance and taught kickboxing. But it wasn’t until 2000 that she found her true passion in Tai Chi. Since then, she has spent more than 10,000 hours learning the art both in theory and techniques from many masters and grandmasters. She interviewed research scientists, doctors and practitioners to understand the benefits of doing Tai Chi. Her knowledge on Tai Chi and Qigong accelerated when she started to take lessons from Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, the 11th Chen Style Tai Chi lineage holder, one of the top ten martial art masters in China and the honoree of the Cambridge List of the Most Distinguished Chinese People in the World in 1999.
She is extremely grateful for the opportunity to receive the private tutelage from Grandmaster Chen so she is able to understand the very profound knowledge of Tai Chi. In 2012, she was accepted as an Indoor Disciple of Grandmaster Chen. In 2019, she certified as a 6th Duan Senior Tai Chi Instructor by Chen Zhenglei Taijiquan Federation.

As an award-winning journalist, Violet has written more than 600 articles on Tai Chi and Qigong with a global readership of 40 some countries and many of her articles were translated into foreign languages. She was a contributor at Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine, which was the largest printed English magazine for martial arts and a columnist at the largest Chinese martial art publication Chinese Wushu. In addition to writing about Tai Chi/Qigong, Violet has taught Tai Chi and Qigong at companies, universities, prominent institutes, senior centers, gyms, St. Louis Chinese Language School, and private studios to promote the art. She volunteered herself to teach unemployed professionals at Business People in Between Jobs, inner city youth and parents at Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, AT&T, Open Streets organized by the St. Louis Mayor, and other venues. She received The President’s Volunteer Service Award from the White House in 2012 and 2013.
To combat the COVID-19 Pandemic, she founded “Free Tai Chi & Qigong Lessons” online and has produced more than 70 shows with global audience of 30 some countries. She was an executive producer for Tai Chi 24, an instructional DVD collaborated with the majority of St. Louis Tai Chi instructors. She was interviewed and reported on by both national and local media. She also gave speeches on Tai Chi health benefits to Parkinson Association, churches and various organizations in St. Louis as well as Zonta International in Taipei.
Beyond Tai Chi
Outside Tai Chi, Violet Li was a Senior Program Manager in the IT industry until she quit the job in May 2015 to devote herself to the great cause of Tai Chi/Qigong. Previously, she served as the directors of Operations, Market and MIS for a Fortune 500 company. She taught International Communications at the Graduate School of Communications at Webster University (St. Louis, MO), Economics 101 at National Chengchi University (Taipei, Taiwan), and Money and Banking at Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan).
Violet Li was accepted as an Indoor Disciple of Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei in 2012.
